Additional prosecution of Oh Jae-won on methamphetamine charges and 'true repentance'

Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds are iconic players who dominated the home run market in the Major League from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. They took the lead and surpassed 70 home runs in this season, changing the 150-year history of the Major League. Another thing they have in common is that they wear the indelible scarlet letter "taking steroids" on their chests.먹튀검증

Maguire hit 70 home runs for the first time in the Major League in 1998. Due to his gentle expression and gentlemanly behavior, he became an object of respect to Americans and earned the nickname "Big Mac." However, Maguire's reputation fell to the ground in 2005 when suspicions arose over his use of steroids, a banned substance. The disappointment of the American people was indescribable.

In 2001, just three years after Maguire set a new homerun record, Barry Bonds hit 73 homeruns in this season, and made history in the Major League again. Bonds not only had 762 homeruns this season, surpassing Hank Aaron's record of 755. However, when Bonds was investigated for taking steroids in 2003, he betrayed Americans instead of respecting them.

The key was the two players' postures. McGuire admitted to taking drugs in 2010. Five years later, he shed tears of remorse. McGuire continues to do various volunteer activities and is on the path of atonement. In December 2011, he was placed under house arrest for one month, two years of probation, 250 hours of community service, and was fined $4,000 by a San Francisco federal court. However, he has denied taking steroids to the end.

The reason why Americans do not forgive Pete Rose (who died in 2024), the record holder of the most hits in the major leagues (4,256), is that he has consistently lied after the incident rather than because he participated in his team's match-fixing.

Not long ago, Oh Jae-won was additionally indicted on charges of receiving methamphetamine. Oh Jae-won has already been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for taking methamphetamine 11 times a year from November 2022 and receiving 2,242 sleeping pills by ordering junior Doosan Bears players.

The Yongin Dragons, an independent baseball team, tried to accept Seo Joon-won, a former Lotte Giants pitcher who was disqualified from arms for a minor sex offense, as a player, but suffered a hard time. Eventually, he canceled his joining after being criticized by public opinion, but revealed that his "morality insensitivity" was at a serious level.

The baseball community is already noisy over the selection of Ahn Woo-jin, a high school student bomber, to represent the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in March next year.

Oh Jae-won says, "I have suffered from panic disorder for a long time," appealing for leniency. Seo says, "I regret my mistake, so let me play as a player." The first thing Oh needs to do is to sincerely apologize to the junior players who threatened and forced them to prescribe sleeping pills. They could not play baseball for one year because of Oh. Seo should not try to play baseball again, but should take time to atone for himself. Ahn should visit younger players who were abused before the national team, apologize, and take a look back on himself.

In Lee Chang-dong's movie Poem, Yang Mi-ja, the main character in the movie, repays her sins on behalf of her grandson who committed sex crimes. People laugh at and point fingers at her. Director Lee Chang-dong urges us to listen to the sound of conscience through this film. In the sports world, we expect "model students" to be treated rather than "honor students."
